Thank you to everyone who join us for the inaugural Working Wardrobe Luncheon on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the High Point Country Club. It was a huge success, and we hope you will mark your calendar to join us for our next luncheon, which is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

As a new non-profit organization, we saw this luncheon is an important opportunity for us to community-build. We wanted to bring together service-oriented friends and neighbors to learn about the plight of clothing insecurity in our Greater High Point community. We loved sharing delicious food and an enlightening talk by award-winning author and professor, Dr. Renee Engeln of Northwestern University. She helped to explain the negative physical and psychological impacts of clothing insecurity, as well as the importance of the work of clothing closets and resources such as Working Wardrobe.

2025 Luncheon - Guest Speaker

We were honored to have Dr. Renee Engeln as the featured speaker of our 2025 Working Wardrobe Luncheon. Dr. Engeln is an award winning professor of psychology at Northwestern University. She is also the author of “Beauty Sick: How the Cultural Obsession with Appearance Hurts Girls and Women.” Her research has appeared in numerous academic journals and at academic conferences, as well as broadly in more mainstream media outlets such as the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, BBC, and the Huffington Post. Dr. Engeln’s TEDx Talk, which focuses on issues surrounding women’s body images, has more than half a million views. We were thrilled to have her share her knowledge and expertise on the relationship between clothing insecurity and body image/self-esteem.
